Dow Jones Surges 1000 Points as U.S.-China Trade Tensions Ease
Equity markets experienced one of their strongest rallies in recent memory following the announcement of a temporary truce in U.S.-China trade tensions. The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 1,078 points (2.61%) to 42,300, while the S&P 500 gained 174 points (3.08%) to 5,834. The Nasdaq Composite outperformed with a 754-point (4.21%) surge to 18,683.
The market surge came after President TRUMP revealed a 90-day pause on punitive tariffs, reducing the effective rate on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%. This includes a 10% base rate plus an additional 20% tariff related to China’s alleged involvement in the fentanyl trade. The de-escalation signals improved trade relations between the world’s two largest economies.
